Carlingford is about 16 km south east of our Rouse Hill base as the crow flies, at the point where Northern Sydney meets Western Sydney. It is a busy, built up suburb, with 28,044 residents at the 2021 Census and a median age of 38. Flats and apartments made up 29.5% of homes and townhouses or semis another 12.5%. Since December 2024 the light rail has run from here to Parramatta and Westmead.
Pennant Hills Road runs straight through the middle of Carlingford as part of the Cumberland Highway, and a lot of Hills District commuters use it to get through to the city. The M2 crosses the north of the suburb with an on ramp from Pennant Hills Road, and the main shops at Carlingford Court and Carlingford Village on Mobbs Hill both sit on the same road. Stop start traffic, close following and buses pulling in and out are what turn a loose stone into a chip.
Even with more apartments, most households here still drive. At the Census 37.3% had one vehicle and 40.9% had two, while only 4.9% had none. 35.5% of working residents were professionals, and computer system design was the top industry. Many live in the unit blocks built around the town centre and the old station since the 1990s, so we fit in building car parks as well as driveways.
