Pitt Town is about 11.1 km north of our Rouse Hill base as the crow flies, with the Hawkesbury River along its northern edge. It is one of Governor Macquarie's five towns from 1810, but since 2010 the farmland around it has been turning into housing. At the 2021 Census 3,871 people lived here, with a median age of 38, and 79.2% of homes had four or more bedrooms.
All the through traffic squeezes along Pitt Town Road and Bathurst Street. Transport for NSW counts more than 10,000 vehicles a day on the road through town, trucks among them, on the run between Windsor and Wisemans Ferry, and expects peak traffic to grow by 40 per cent. The 950 metre bypass to Cattai Road, with two roundabouts and a bridge over Hortons Creek, is being built to pull those trucks out of the town centre. Until it opens, construction work and loaded trucks share the same stretch.
