Maraylya is about 9.3 km north of our Rouse Hill base as the crow flies, with Scheyville National Park on its southern border and Cattai Creek along the north and east. It is mostly small acreage, used for hobby farms and keeping horses. At the 2021 Census 1,281 people lived here, with a median age of 41, and households averaged 3.2 vehicles each.
Pitt Town Road runs through Maraylya and crosses creek country. Council replaced two old timber bridges on it in 2014, closing the road for months, so the crossing would be less prone to flooding. The western side still floods after heavy rain, with run-off from Scheyville National Park draining toward Longneck Lagoon. When the water drops it leaves mud and grit on the road, and the next car or float flicks it up.
This is a trades suburb. Technicians and trades workers were the biggest occupation at the Census, 22.7% of employed residents, and plumbing, electrical and house construction were top industries. 52.4% of homes had three or more vehicles. Add horse properties, the Horseworld Sportsworld equestrian arena and trail riding in Scheyville, and there is often a work ute and a tow vehicle beside the family car.
