Dural is about 10.3 km east of our Rouse Hill base as the crow flies, out along Old Northern Road past Glenhaven. It is semi-rural and split between Hornsby Shire and The Hills Shire, with Round Corner in the south west. The 2021 Census counted 7,900 residents and a median age of 45. There is still farmland and remnant forest here, and plenty of hobby farms.
Two of the oldest roads in the district meet at Dural. Old Northern Road was built by convicts between 1825 and 1836 to reach the Hunter Valley, and north of here it narrows to a two lane undivided road towards Wisemans Ferry. New Line Road comes up from Cherrybrook to join it, and governments are investigating improvements between Old Northern Road and Boundary Road for traffic flow and safety. Buses run out of the CDC depot on New Line Road too, so family cars share these roads with heavier vehicles.
Dural households keep a lot of vehicles. At the Census 32.3% had three or more, close to double the NSW figure of 17.5%, and the average was 2.4 per home. Homes are big, with 80.3% separate houses and 64.5% having four or more bedrooms. Managers were 21.0% of working residents and technicians and trades workers 11.1%.
