Glenorie is about 12 km north east of our Rouse Hill base as the crow flies, up Old Northern Road. The village sits right on that road and straddles two councils, The Hills and Hornsby. It is farming and acreage country. At the 2021 Census 3,792 people lived here, 98.3% of homes were separate houses and nearly half (47.6%) had three or more vehicles.
Old Northern Road follows the old Great North Road, which convicts started building in 1825, and it is still the main way in and out of Glenorie. Commuters, farm trucks and through traffic all use it. Transport for NSW resurfaced the stretch between Schwebel Lane and 2852 Old Northern Road in 2024, with 13 nights of asphalting and the road shut at night between Maroota and Dural. Patched sections and detours tend to leave loose stone on the road.
Council's Rural Strategy names Middle Dural to Glenorie as one of the shire's two main farming clusters, with fruit and vegetables, poultry, nurseries and grazing. The Census backs that up: technicians and trades workers were 17.6% of working residents and managers 22.0%. Households average three vehicles each. So as well as family cars, we fit windscreens on farm utes and trucks and cab glass on tractors.
