Middle Dural is about 9.7 km north east of our Rouse Hill base as the crow flies, strung along Old Northern Road north of Dural. The suburb is split between The Hills and Hornsby councils. It is small and spread out, with 1,040 people at the 2021 Census and a median age of 46. Separate houses made up 99.0% of homes, and 81.2% had four or more bedrooms.
Old Northern Road was built by convicts between 1825 and 1836, and now it carries commuters, farm trucks and through traffic. Transport for NSW spent weeks of nights on it in 2024, replacing asphalt between Coppabella Road and Mid Dural Road, then again from Mid Dural Road to Edwards Road. While that work was on, the road closed between Galston Road and Mid Dural Road and traffic went round the side roads. Fresh patching and detours are where loose stones get picked up and thrown.
Middle Dural homes run a lot of vehicles. The Census average was 3.4 per dwelling, 57.3% of homes had three or more, and none had zero. Many residents are managers (23.0%) or professionals (22.6%).
